Action plan:  We will distribute PetLaps to crisis centers throughout the United States, including local fire stations, police headquarters, and hospitals, first responder sites where individuals in crisis will receive PetLaps.

Therapeutic approach:  Most hurting people just go home with their hurt and live with it.  We will help to change that by providing something to encourage increased pet-human bonds.  It may be that we will see an increase in pet adoption from shelters as people find a "friend" to share their PetLaps.

There's nothing quite like the power of the pet-human bond.  People have been known to even die for their pets.  Solid research proves the health benefits that pets bring to humans.  People in crisis need someone to touch, to hold, a place where they can let go of the stress and allow that emotional healing to begin.  Pets fill that place time after time.  Many times people will talk to their pets when they feel unable to open up with another human.  Pets are often the catalysts that open the door to recovery.  That brings light to all the people and events in the life of someone in crisis.

Why PetLaps:  By making lap time more comfortable for both pets and their "parents", PetLaps will encourage people in crisis to spend more focused time with their pets, which, according to research, will help many people begin and continue their healing journey.  As the person unfolds the PetLaps onto their lap, that action will come to serve as a "signal" that a kind of time out, a letting go time is about to happen.  This behavioral pattern is well known among all who help people deal with crisis and trauma, particularly therapists who teach relaxation techniques.  The PetLaps will become and continue to be associated with comfort, even when the person just looks at it.

PetLaps are small, about 30" x 18", and can be easily carried from place to place.  They're somewhat like a combination of a small blanket and a pillow, but occupy less space, and they have a strap to keep them folded when needed.  Their three layers is what makes them comfortable, and they're soft to touch.  Machine wash and dry makes them easy care.  Looking cute is their first line appeal.  Comfort is the sustaining and final appeal.

Go to www.petlaps.com, the for-profit site, for photos and more PetLaps details.  PetLaps can be purchased only at the PetLaps.com site.

Multifunctional aspect:  People without pets will find PetLaps have uses for them, as well.  Flyers will accompany PetLaps to explain other uses.  PetLaps make lap time more comfortable for people with children as well as pets.  They warm cold laps and, they roll up to provide neck support while spending long nights sitting in a hospital waiting room or similar place.  PetLaps are a little like a "blankie" for adults, or at least for those in crisis.

Special PetLaps version:  The version of PetLaps to be distributed through PetLaps.org will be made of a specific fabric design combination that will be seen only in PetLaps from PetLaps.org.  The label will also be specific to PetLaps.org.
